G'day from Vancouver Island, Canada!
Hey guys/gals! Glad to have found this website with so much useful info. As a newbie woodworker, I realize I have a great deal to learn about a myriad of topics relating to making stuff with wood but it's going to be fun.
Just getting going setting up a semi-decent shop in my single car garage. With a couple of small projects under my belt, I'm primed for something more challenging.

Welcome, and I hope you enjoy the ride.
On a side issue I remember partially travelling through Corfu with a nurse from Vancouver Island back in 1978. I remember her stating that there was only 7(?) families living on the island then. I am sure that a lot has changed since then.

G'Day & Welcome to the Great Southern Land and to a top forum ....
There are quite a few "canuck" members plus USA members along with rest of the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.....
Cheers from On Top DownUnder, crowie

Vancouver Island population
Thanks for the welcome!
Per the population of Vancouver Island -- you may have misunderstood her, or she was thinking of a different island. As of 1980 the population was over 200,000 in one city alone (Victoria).
There are many other large towns on the island including Namaimo, Comox, Campbell River......
Everyone who has moved here from elsewhere in Canada will tell you its the most beautiful place in all of Canada.

Float plane ride
It's so picturesque flying over the Gulf Islands in a small plane! I've had the privilege several times and it's always a treat.

Thanks crowie!
I appreciate the welcome.
I did notice a number of other N.Americans when browsing thru the forums the other day. That's good to see; I think we can all learn from one another & benefit from our unique history of learning the in and outs of working with wood. I'm interested to see discussion/comments on the various tools/equipment available in different parts of the world and how things are going for folks using them. It's so easily to become insular in thinking about your hobby/craft; this is where I/we can expand our horizons.

Thanks Keith!
The warm welcome I'm receiving is unexpected but - of course, welcome. I look forward to finding some ideas I can work on in my shop and later on show off my projects that are 'keepers'.
Here's a table I'm nearly done with; still needs paint (matching a chair on the patio).patio table.jpg

Welcome indeed - I have fond memories of Vancouver - especially Gas Town district, VI and riding the carousel in Butchart Gardens. Am a newbie here myself and to date, I like what I see
