Travelling East To West

I am aware of all the restrictions and closures as a result of Covid, however I am considering a move back west from Queensland - and at this point in time I am still very much at the thinking out loud stage.

Does anyone have any experience of travelling west through Longreach & Winton to Alice Springs and on to Perth - effectively bypassing NSW, Vic & SA.
I've been told it's gravel roads, although I've seen road trains go through it on Outback truckers.
Is the road passable for a Falcon wagon & trailer and if it is, is there any times of the year the road is impassable due to weather?

I've got 34 years on the road, I'm comfortable on gravel at highway speeds and wise enough to drive to the conditions - what I'm looking for is general information on the roads.

Probably Boulia through to Alice would be my bet. The Plenty Hwy is good, bad and ugly and you never know when it is going to turn quickly. Very doable with what you have, just take your time, carry spare wheels/tyres for the car and trailer and carry a portable 12V air compressor; which will allow you to air up and down. Use your tyres as extra suspension, certainly makes life easier for the occupants and the car and should stop it rattling to bits.

As for when, if it isn't wet, you're good to go. Obviously cooler months are best.

From Alice down to the rock, then head west to Leonora. You'll need to carry fuel and be very self sufficient. Take your time, really take your time and you should be alright.

The other option is via the Tanami, you'll need the same precautions and take your time.

Your car could be quite second hand after, but you'll certainly have an interesting time.

While many of the roads are gravel, a real lot are dirt and/or sand; you'll soon get the gist of it.

Why not just go the safe way on the main roads thru NT, it might be longer but you`ll probably get here quicker, and less wear and tear on you and the vehicle, or are you looking for the adventure?
