staining
Hi, I routered a welcome sign using pine wood. I used a 1/8" endmill bit and cut to a depth of 1/8". I want to make the cut black and stain the wood surface with an oak semi transparent stain. Using a brush with black paint is slow and tedious and still gets black on the surface. I tried using spray black, black stain with sponge or rag. But I can't sand the black completly off. It penetrates the wood to where it I end up sanding of the routered text.
Is there a product that I can use that won't penetrate the wood so much?

You could try covering the whole piece with an adhesive film first then do the routing and then apply a clear sealer to the routed letters then paint them black. Remove the adhesive film and stain the rest.
