G'day
G'day everyone, Darcy here.
I'm an amateur woodworker currently based in Geelong. I love wood as a natural material, and have always been inspired by the beautiful pieces of furniture people create from it. I am interested in furniture making and joinery, and although I haven't tackled anything major I hope to be able to make some larger pieces I can be proud of.
I began woodworking around 5 years ago, starting out with a few hand planes and building up from there. It was the approachable and romantic appeal of hand tools which got me started with the hobby, however I have recently "invested" in a jointer and thicknesser after wondering whether I really want to dimension all the bits of rough sawn timber I've picked up off gumtree by hand.
After picking up those two machines I decided I'd better get a dust collector, and have since been reading quite a lot on these forums about the wonderful world of dust collection. Oh god.
I'm thankful and glad to be part of such a great online community, and am looking forward to attending some local woodworking club meetings when restrictions ease.
Cheers!

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Darcy"....
There are quite a stack members around Melbourne and cross Victoria plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.....
Cheers crowie
PS - Watch out for local Melbourne get togethers, great way to meet like minded forum members & network after the current situation eases of course...
BUT there are a few forum member woodworkers in the Geelong area...

Welcome Darcy. Good to see another local on here (well I think so, is it Melbourne or Geelong?). Unfortunately one tool leads on to another as our skills grow and interests change over time.

Thanks everyone!
It is Geelong, although I've only been here about 9 months.
Yea there's always another tool on the horizon, so long as that doesn't get in the way of making some mess in the meantime, I'm happy
