Default cat spew has marked floor boards

    hi everyone.

So i've had an issue with out black butt floor boards. the boards are coated in a water based 2k polyurethene by Polycure (i have a heap of spare stuff left over).

the issue i've had is that our poor old cat has spewed in a couple spots and where it hasn't been cleaned up fairly quickly it has actually stained the boards. so with the latest patch i actually tried scrubbing it with some dishwashing liquid and a green scourer. this has since i believe rubbed through the coating as it has turned matt/dull in the small patch that i've scrubbed. I figured the scourer may ruin the finish but so did the cat spew.

the other odd thing is after an hour or so after drying it the stain its self has turned white, and only on the spew mark, but giving it the old wet spit test it returns to a normalish color.

what i want to do is apply a very small patch of the poly but hopefully not have it too obvious and i'd like to know what might give the best finish, a fine brush, a foam brush etc? plan B will be sand back to the wood and have another go. I realise i may get some raised edges around where this new layer might go but i don't see an alternative. luckily we have feature grade boards so a lot of blemishes just blend in.

p.s please refrain for hating on the poor cat too much, poor old bastard is pushing 18 years old.

Try applying it very sparingly with a cloth over the marked patch. Should avoid any obvious edges. Slightly thinned if you have to. Ensure any polish or wax is cleaned away first. Worth a try first as plan B is a much bigger job.

I feel for you (and the poor old cat). We once had a cat throw up on a white marble fireplace surround and it actually etched the marble! Which goes to show you how much acidity is in their stomachs.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
