Dining table - Hardwax oil
Hi all.
I’m refinishing my dining table using hardwax oil.
I’ve done 3 coats, wiping off excess and leaving 24 hours between coats. I’ve lighting sanded with 600 between coats.
It’s been 48 hours since the last coat and it’s still quite sticky. Is this normal?
I was hoping to have the table back inside by tomorrow so I’m unsure what to do next. Any advice??

All depends on how well the base finishes have dried before you put the next coat on, if still tacky it may be up to a week before it is dry to touch but will be 3-4 weeks before it is fully cured.

Going by the SDS is mainly linseed oil. I’d be leaving it, as Jim said, to allow it to harden. Depending on how thick it went on it could take a couple of weeks. Hardwax oils are applied very thinly. I did my kitchen/sunroom table two weeks ago and I won’t use it for another week even though it’s dry. I did three coats allowing overnight to dry (at least 12 hours) between coats. My coats were touch dry in a couple of hours.
