QLD walnut tearout

Hi All,
I resawed a board and ended up with two pieces 8mm thick. I've bookmatched them. Will probably use it for the top of a jewellery box. There's a bit of tear-out from the thicknesser in the figured area. Looking for advice on how to proceed. Should I scrape/sand the low spots out first, or finish the piece then fill with coloured wax or a shellac burn-in stick? Some of the tear-out is quite deep and I don't want to lose too much thickness. It currently has a coat of extra blonde shellac wiped on it.

Personally I wouldn't be putting any divots in it, you will always see them. With the deep bits you could part fill them with glue/sawdust and finish as you've described with the coloured wax.

You need a small tin of Sellys Plastibond and some oxide colours .
The PB is a hard setting quality filler . You make up a little amount of a colour or two and apply with a flat crisp edge . Let it go off and carefully get it back flat with the rest . A little touch up with another colour or two mixed with shellac and proceed to bury that within the polish job is how I get invisible repairs with the same sort of problem .

Thanks both. It looks like filling is the go. In the past I've filled gum vein pockets with very fine sawdust and super glue. I haven't tried Plastibond with oxides. I've got some oxides coming from Amazon. I'll grab some Plastibond and give that a try.
