Blackwood help!
G'day!
Just wondering if someone could help me with my Blackwood timber which has decided to sweat on one side only. It's not water but almost smells and feels like a oil or sap type feel. Not sure if where I bought it from could have spilt something on it?
Just want to know what to do to get rid of it and clean it to finish. See pic attached
Thanks!

I've seen a similar thing happen with LOSP treated timber, but never that bad...
Does it wipe off with solvent like turps or acetone?

Yeah it does but still remains like a stain. It's strange because I sanded it and it was all good. Then few hours later it's changed.

How long has the blackwood been drying for?

Hi tw1,
Sometimes blackwood does that. When you sanded it back, you opened up pores that have dry resin in them. The resin absorbs moisture from the air and some brown goo oozes out. When it happened to me, I just wiped it off with a dampish rag before applying a finish. Once it is sealed the sweating stops.

Maybe a quick sanding to remove the stain just prior to applying finish will work. Good luck!

Is the blackwood dry, I have seen green blackwood do something similar.
