    Default Hard Shellac interrupted application

    Hi

As I understand it, one of the benefits of shellac as a finish is that it 'melts' in to previous coats so there are no witness marks when sanding out the finish. In the case of 'Hard Shellac' (HARD SHELLAC - New improved formula finish.), will the modifiers prevent later coats 'melting' in if there are a few weeks in between finishing sessions?

    Thanks
    Matt

    Hello Matt

Sorry for the delayed response. Missed this post even though it was reported for my attention, little bit under the hammer.

Not sure if the Hard Shellac melts into the previous coat but it most certainly sticks like crazy to previous coats. I use a few 1.5 mt x 35 mm dowels to stir the barrels of Hard Shellac prior to use. Been doing this for years with the same dowels. Each time they are used they are banged really hard on the edge of the 180 lt drums and to date it has never delaminated.

We do have a number of professional finishers working with our Hard Shellac they spray it brush it and french polish it and it's often left for a few days between coats. Never heard of any delaminating yet. Some has been on restaurant tables for around 15 years and is as hard and good as the day it was originally done, despite constant use of harsh cleaning chemicals etc.

That's about the best I can offer.

If you are french polishing with it and use oil as a lubricant, please use our FoodSafe Plus oil and you will be able to pick up the polishing where you left off even a few of weeks later. If you don't want to leave the oil on the surface wipe it off with mineral turpentine soaked cloth and a piece of clean dry soft cloth.

Hope this is if some help.

    Cheers - Neil
