    Default Kids cubby on deck

    Gday forum
I’m building a small kids cubby house that i had planned to sit on our merbau deck. It’s only a small cubby.

But I’m having second thoughts about whether to actually put it on the deck as I’m concerned about the merbau and what impact it will have on it. The cubby framework is made out of structural pine and I was going to sit it on some small treated pine sleepers. The deck is oiled every 12mths with intergrain ultradeck.

Am I about to cause damage to my deck ?
    Thanks in advance

I have a very heavy doghouse I built sitting on our deck. We don’t have any issues. I made the corners “studs” sit 100mm below the floor of the dog house. The floor of the doghouse was made with decking boards. This allows the air to move around easily.
One concern I would have is children may accidentally course the cubby to slide on the deck as they get in and out.

    thanks forrestmount -appreciate the reply

I'm also planning the floor to sit about 100mm the deck to allow air to move around

Should I have concerns with the treated pine bearers leaching the CCA treatment onto the deck and discolouring it ? Or can i get away with using non treated pine as bearers instead ?

If the deck is under cover I would personally use untreated partly as the cubby house will most likely have a 5-10 year use depending on the age and number of children.

If not under cover I would use absolutely use treated.
I would also add rubber pads on the bottom to give protection.

thanks forrestmount - I'll go with the treated pine

I hadn't thought of rubber pads - great idea !! Was able to get some rubber buffers from bunnings that will suit perfectly

    thanks again for the advice
