scammers
This morning I had a phone call on my land line, which is unusual because almost everyone I know uses
my mobile number.
Good morning said a voice with a definite African/Nigerian accent.
I am from the Motor Accident Commission, have you had an accident in your car in the last twelve months.
I replied no and the voice said sorry to bother you,and hung up.
when thought about it, I thought, if I had an accident in the last year the MAC would probably have known about it.
Plus he would then say something like your, claim has been successful give me your bank details.
so I rang the MAC and the lady I spoke to said they had been getting lot of reports of this lately.
She asked if I got the number from caller ID,alas as I have a really old phone on my land line and I didn't get a number.
Beware the bogus caller.Cheers Fred

I get a lot of calls on my mobile trying to sell me things. They have my name and old address so it seems that they do not have the ability to update their records.

I had one on the mobile phone this morning. It seems that my Microsoft had expired. A weird English accent. I was given a toll free number to call. I just let the robo call go on and on until it hung up. I don't know what "Microsoft" could have expired.
I also got one "from" Microsoft Security last week. I was told that my computer was having a security issue and I needed to go to a web site to install a fix. I told him that I worked all night at the server farm of almost 2700 computers. I needed to know which computer needed the security fix. As I don't have a computer at home I'll have to call them back from the server farm which is an hour away. They just hung up.

I've had couple of these auto dialler scams that just play a recorded message to me about my naughty tax dodging...
The first 20 seconds is missing because it takes the answer phone that long to pickup.

At the risk of sounding alarmist, there was a scam a few years ago where unsolicited callers were making contact to record calls, specifically to get certain phrases/words i.e. your name, yes/no etc. These were apparently used to splice together a soundbite that could be used to assist in ID theft later.
It's resulted in me answering calls with only "Hello"...
