G'Day
G'Day,
I've been lurking for a while, and finally thought I'd say hello.
I've been living in a one bedroom apartment in the city for the last 5-6 years now, and haven't had any space for woodworking, but I've had a space open recently and I've invested in some Japanese saws and a chisel set!
The first project is a bench. I'm jumping into the deep-end with my own version of the roubo bench. Mortise + Tenon all round and through tenons. Lots of firsts here.

The budget allows for pine at the moment.
so I've got 90x90 frame, and the top will be laminated 45x90 (90 high).
I'm not going to glue the top down though, with the thinking that in a few years when it gets a tired, I'll replace it with a harder timber.
I'll post some progress pics as the build progresses

Cool, that's the way I started off too, still the same now though
I made the frame so that it was knock down. Each end frame is glued but the stretchers can unbolt. Instead of top stretchers I used a piece of formply then the two top slabs, so mine's not a Roubo style, but has a tool well in centre.
Looking forward to seeing what you end up with.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Mark".
There are a stack members across the Melbourne area, quite a few in country Victoria plus lots more across the rest of the country & the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork......
Cheers crowie
PS _ Keep an eye out on the forum for Melbourne Get Togethers as a great way of meeting like minded folk....
Also the Melbourne Wood Show is in September...

Bendigo Bob, I'm glad I'm on the right track
Thanks for the welcome Crowie.
Looking forward to the Wood Show in Sept. And I'll be sure to post the build as it's progressing. It's slow progress, especially since my workshop is 30 minute drive away from where i live in the city.
But hope to get down there most weekends.
Stay tuned.
