Another review of David's (Aldav) Parallel Clamps. No affiliation with David. Just a happy customer.

About 6 months ago, I bought some 1200mm clamps for my school workshop. Those ones have been through dozens of glueups for a range of projects. I find that they lock on easier than some of the Besseys I've got. The Besseys are great but Davids are about half the price.

On Monday, I contacted David about some more clamps. He sent them on Tuesday and I received them Wednesday afternoon. They were put straight
to use clamping up a spotted gum cutting board

Thanks for that post Lewis. Looking at your picture made me wonder whether you use anything to protect the clamp bar's from glue? I've found extruded plastic end capping designed to clip on the edge of 10mm building boards really good for this purpose. It fits my Jet and Parallel Action Clamp bars really well and is as cheap as chips. It comes in 4200mm lengths and I just cut it to the lengths I want for individual jobs. I've been getting mine from Dahlsens, but I'm sure it would be available at plenty of other hardware places too.


The things I like about it, other than it being cheap , is that it provides a continuous support to the material you're gluing, and you lose next to none of the jaw height because it's less than 2mm thick. It's so much better than those crappy, expensive little stand-offs that you get on Besseys.

Every now and again I'll run some beeswax up the length of the clamp. Occasionally, I'll have to a get a Stanley knife to scrape off a bit of glue that's stuck to the side.

To to be honest, I don't look after them that well but with the minimal maintainence that I do, they're working just fine. I'll definitely be getting more in the future. We've got a bunch of Record sash clamps that have taken a back seat when it comes to clamping.

You can get it from some hardware stores (not Bunnings), I got my supply from Dahlsens. It comes in 3.6 metre lengths and I paid less than $8 a length. If you can't find it at a hardware store it would be best to try one of the extruded plastic profile suppliers. This stuff works a treat and you can use it again and again.

Just to help anyone wanting some I believe the product David is referring to is Casing Bead. It is primarily used to cap/ finish the edge of plasterboard but can also use it on any other sheet boards. It comes in 4.5, 6,10;13 and 16mm wide and is available in plastic and in a light gauge metal
You will probably find it in the plasterboard accessory section of the big green shed or any Plasterboard suppliers will carry it

Yes that would be typical of Bunnings, have all your plastic extrusions in the one place EXCEPT for that one!

I have a set of Dave's Panel Clamps, make glue ups of table tops a tanty and cuss word free zone.

This is today's light entertainment. Eucalyptus beenatree, 2 x 980*300*30, with 3 dowels. It took me 10 minutes to move all the machines and timber out of the way, 5 minutes to preset the height adjustment, 1 minute to test the dry fit and find the I was out by one row, 5 minutes to pry open the joined pieces and clean some residual glue, 1 minute to reset the height bars to the correct height, 30 seconds to load the first slab, 1 minute to spread glue, sparingly, 30 seconds to drop the second slab, tap it down for a perfect join and 2 minutes to clamp it. Why it took me 2 minutes to clamp it is because I take my time to check for squeeze out and slowly bring up the clamping pressure.

I had a need for some Parallel clamps - 1270mm and remembered Aldav. Quick PM and all sorted. Ordered Monday, arrived Wednesday. Can’t ask for better service than that.
