    Default Hi from Melbourne :D

    Hi All

Phils the name, thought I'll give you an intro of how I got into this hobby.
Moved into my new home back in Feb 2015
Did a lot of research online on how to do a deck, was hesitant at first as I never really used a power tool before .... lol
Purchased a Makita Compound Saw and off I went, It turned out pretty good, it's still holding up so was pretty chuffed with myself..

I then started doing research online on DIY projects I would like to take on and tools that I need.
I purchased a Festool TS55 Track saw next and did the carcass and drawers and fronts for the outdoor kitchen.

House was looking pretty empty, so off I went to Bunnies and got some construction grade timber and experimented on making coffee tables.
As I got more familiar with the types of Joinery, I started buying Hardwoods for my projects.
Did a hallway side table out of Jarrah, left overs I made cutting boards

Attached are some of the projects I've tackled so far.....doing the office fitout at the moment with Floating Shelves / Mountain Ash bench top and built in cabinetry...which means I'm also fitting out new base boards all around the house.....what a painful job that is... lol

I'm now looking at turning my garage into a workshop. Recently purchased a 2 stage dusty and now looking at getting a Sawstop Prof 36" T-Glide....(prices just went up GRRRRR) Next project will be a Torsion Box / MFT style workbench.

Forum has a wealth of info glad I stumbled across this site

    Hi Phil,

Welcome to the forums. Yes, lots of information and opinions here. We are mostly a friendly lot and everyone loves a photo. Your progress so far looks like you have talent. If you want to get into fine furniture I recommend you find a good tutor/class locally as the improvement in skills and knowledge can be exponential.

    Thanks Xanthorrhoes
Would love to get into fine furniture down the track. For now, I'm interested in learning Finish Carpentry, so I can trim out the rest of the house. I got a Theatre room which I would like to trim out with columns, corbels etc....amazing how much info there is on Google / Youtube But you're right, a good tutor / class would excel the learning process.
