What is Wattyl Craftsman Traditional Reducer?
Having tried thinning some Wattyl Craftsman Traditional Stain with turps and finding that the oils in the stain settled out forming a gloopy substance on the bottom of the container, and transferring said gloop to my wood, causing streaky marks, I decided to cough up an buy some Wattyl Craftsman Traditional Reducer.
I opened the tin at home and had a careful whiff, and recognised the smell immediately but can't quite put a name to it. It's probably some thinner like T2 that is available for $15 for a 4 litre tin at an automotive paint shop, but for $16/250ml in Mitre10.
Can anyone identify or know what it is?

A quick question to Dr Google shows that Wattyl Craftsman Stain is a nitro-cellulose based product
http://www.wattylindustrial.com.au/d...nt%20Stain.pdf
So you you would need a nitro-cellulose lacquer thinners. I have no idea what a "T2" thinners is, but certainly Mineral Turps is not going to be compatible with a nitro-cellulose based stain.
Edit:
The only reference Dr Google throws up to T2 Thinners is Wattyl T2 Thinners and Solver T2 Thinners, both are straight Toluene (Toluol) and would not be suitable a s a thinners for nitorcellulose, even though Toluene is normally part of lacquer thinners but in conjunction with ketones and esters.

Genius!
What a scam Wattyl selling it for $16.75 for 250ml. And me a dill for not researching this beforehand.
