Hi from a Melbourne newbie
Hi guys,
I'm Garth, i've been a DIY guy for a while but have moved my focus to some finer woodworking, I've had a lot of the kit for a while and not have some drive to use it to make nice things.
I've not done any true wood working since high-school, I worked as a builders labourer for a while before becoming a desk monkey... Fortunately at my work I have some cool toys like a CNC router, and a huge flatbed printer (3000x2500mm print area) that will print on timber!
I'll be picking the brains of you seasoned woodworkers on timber ID, appropriate timber for a job, and equipment advice. My shed at the moment is lacking space but I make do by keeping everything on mobile stands.
My wife knows that the next place we buy will have nothing less than a double garage just for my work space, the cars can live outside! But that will be a couple of years off.
Cheers.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Garth".
There are a heap of members in & around Melbourne as well as across the rest of Victoria..
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [work in progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers, crowie

Is there a forum here where people can ask other for help with a project?
I've got some timber that I'd like to run through a thicknesser, I'd happily pay with beer or some cash if someone in my local area can help... but I can't see a forum that covers this.

G'day Garth, not really the sort of thing to ask in the Market Place, but Woodwork General would be fine.
When you ask probably best to be a bit more specific as to where you are - Melbourne was a big place last time I drove through it!

I really should buy a thicknesser.
I'm in Bonbeach, down near Frankston... but id happily drive anywhere on the Eastern side of Melbourne.
I've got the following I'd like to get dressed if possible.
Grey ironbark, 250x50x1600,
Grey ironbark 175x38x3300
Red ironbark 250x50x700
Spotted gum 170x22 12 lm total
Vic Ash 150x22x1500 (6 pieces)
