G'day from Canberra
G'day one and all,
Yes, I hail from Canberra - please don't hold that against me!
I have had this site on my favorites list for quite a while, where I have had every intention to write something like this to introduce myself. It's that "Gunna" thing!
I have worked in and around Canberra mainly in Kitchen Manufacturing for the past 40 years. Now that I have retired I cannot find enough hours in the day to keep my hands off working with wood. (Who said retirement was easy?). Bought a wood lathe along with a few other items of machinery to clutter up my workshop ("Cave" best described as a "Swamp"), concentrating on little things such as jewellery boxes and clocks ... trouble is, I am not making any money because I am a softie to making things for other people as freebie presents, nonetheless, I get a strange sense of satisfaction from it all.
Anyway, I hope to be checking in a lot more often...
Regards,
Davo.

The best woodies come from Canberra
the best way is just to ask for a donation to cover materials when starting out. I've found that people will not hesitate to give you $5 or $10.
There are a dozen active canberrans on the forum and about 15 who are not so active here. There are also plenty of "real world" groups too
Dont forget to post some pictures.

Would be nice if Monaro or AJAA did gift vouchers or just ask people to donate timber! Welcome to the forum Davo

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Davo".
There are quite a few members in Canberra and around the Southern Highlands with a stack of members in Sydney area plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork......
Cheers crowie

Welcome Davo. As Woodpixel said, there are a few of us here in Canberra (with me being the most rookie of the lot!)
The ACT Woodcraft Guild is in Kambah and extremely welcoming and full of support. They also have all the machinery that you could ever want to use and it is available to all members.
