I have an earlier version, looks like they have addressed the inadequate foot print size, but the rest looks very similar. The guard works pretty well but not fool proof! Overall it has been a reliable machine.

Hiya Brian, if you can afford the Jet, I'd think it's hardly a contest. I have
Carbatec jointer and thicknesser, and Jet bandsaw and dust extractor, the
finishing and setup on the Jets is a cut above the cheaper machines, not
that those Carbatec machines are bad, for starters they are nice and
heavy, but they came with potmetal knives, they needed a lot of setup ...
If I could've gotten the machines I wanted (long bed jointer, solid table
15" thicknesser) from Jet here, I would've - no hesitation. Alas, limited
catalogue in NZ.

I also have the short bed version like Mobyturns and find it works quite well. The only problem I have had is the switch trips the earth leakage now and again. The problem must be in the switching somewhere because I can leave it switched on and turn it off and on at the powerpoint and it doesn't have a problem. I see the newer models now have an NVR switch so it may not be a problem with them now.
