Selecting Pryda Bracket
G'Day All
Engineer has specified a 240x45 LVL counter beam to pick up 2-off hanging beams that are bearing on a wall that we are going to remove. The counter beam is going to be butted against an existing 2/360x63 LVL on one side, and resting on a masonry wall on the other side. In about the middle it's going to be picking up the 2-off hanging beams.
Closest I can get my hands on for the counter beam is 240x58 LVL but I can't find a Pryda Bracket to butt this up to the existing LVL. Can anyone help me to select one that is readily available (i.e. through Bunnings or online)?
Further, in general, how do you guys select brackets/hangers. Do you always find a bracket with the width that is exactly equal to the width of the beam, or is it okay if it is out by a few mm. For instance in this case I can find a 60mm wide bracket.
Also what guidelines do you use for the height of the bracket? I have been told it should be 60% of the beam that is being carried.
Any other criteria you use in selecting brackets/hangers? I'm new to this (as you might be able to tell)
Cheers
