    Default Scam doing the rounds

    Others may have heard of this scam but I will post it anyway.
    I have just had a phone call purporting to be from Commonwealth Bank stating that a transaction for $900 in South Africa had been put on my credit card and did I want it to go through or be reversed. The caller knew my name and address. I told her that I had not made such a transaction whereupon she said that to reverse it she needed to confirm certain details. I asked for her phone number so that I could ring her back. The phone immediately went dead.
    I phoned the bank to inform them and asked that a note be put on my file for reference. The lady there confirmed that it was a scam that had been doing the rounds.

    One of my mates who is quite good at speaking in quirky voices and making funny noises does something along the following lines with scammer calls.

    After the initial spiel by the scammer he says;

    "Hang on a moment I'm just going to connect this call to my computer"
    Then he makes some clicks, beeps and whistles and says in an electronic voice.
    "You are now connected to Scammer Detection V1.2, please communicate with the digital interrogator as you a human - please continue"
    At this point the scammer usually hangs up but if they don't - after a suitable pause he says in the same electronic voice.
    "Your phone number has been identified as coming from a scam operator and has been forwarded to the authorities for action".

    I find playing this audio down the line works wonders.

    If they last the full 10 hours, they can have every cent I have

    (BTW: This is what my alarm plays...very inspiring to get up and turn it off as quickly as possible )

    I lasted about 4 seconds, I missed tapping on the stop button on the iPad or I would have been quicker.
