LVL bearers
A terrace built on both sides has common double brick walls, 200mm thick (two bricks).
I want to lay a floor in the roof area to make a storage space. The floor will span the common walls that are about 4.3m apart, using 250 x 50mm LVL's, perpendicular to, and above, the ceiling joists.
Apparently, to meet fire restrictions, I need to be 100mm away from the boundary wall. The boundary wall is the middle of the common wall. To keep the flooring 100mm from the boundary means I cannot sit the LVL'S on my side of the brickwork of the common wall.
Do I fix some timber to the side of the common wall and sit the LVL's on them? What size timbers would I need to fix to the wall?
The flooring is green tongue, about 19mm thick.
Appreciative of any advice.
