Finishing Woody Pear to make it harder
Nearly finished a snooker cue I'm making , the butt is mainly woody pear and it seems a very soft wood . I've cored it with rock maple for strength but I'm unsure whether to finish it with a grain filler & lacquer or to both fill the grain and finish it with thin cyano . I know a few pen turners use woody pear so whats your preferred finish for this species ?
cheers , Bazz.
ps: in the included pic it has a light coat of aerosol polyurethane to help stop the spliced morrell burl from opening up .
