Dreaded Enthusiasm
A long story.
About 45 years ago there was a miracle weight loss device that was supposed to work wonders. (FYI - It didn't work for weight loss.)
The device was a platform of two one foot square pieces of 3/4 inch plywood held together with a "Lazy Susan" bearing. IIRC the device was called a "Twister Platform". The device was used by standing on the platform and doing the "Twist". While I was using the platform, the platform tilted and I stepped off sideways and twisted my left knee. I've been paying for that sideways step ever since.
Initially it was just minor and occasional pains accompanied by the joint snapping. Annoying but livable for over 40 years. Then there were several years of shots (Kenalog 40) until it became necessary for a shot every 90 days. That's the limit of repetitiveness.
On August 17 I go under the knife and have the old meniscus, etc. replaced with some sort of plastic and titanium new parts.
On the bright side, the doctor suggested using ice to relive some of the soreness after the surgery. He recommended transferring the ice to a glass and covering the ice with a good scotch as an additional pain reliever. (My kind of doctor!)
On the dim side, the Department of Motor Vehicles says no driving while on the pain drugs. Also common sense says to stay out of the shop while on the drugs also. Alcohol goes without saying.
So, yes I'm enthusiastically anticipating the final results but really, really dreading the process.

Bummer, but at least you will be in less pain or hopefully no pain once you have recovered.
All the best for the op, do like your doc, his brand off meds appeals to my sick mindThe person who never made a mistake never made anything
Cheers
