    Default Is this a record?

This is prompted by another forum member expressing some surprise that something sent from SA to Qld would take 7+ days.

I had a different experience this week. Bought an in-dash GPS/Stereo head unit on Thursday 16/7, despatched Friday 17/7 via a company called Equick-China (got a tracking number and it worked), delivered to my PO Box on Tuesday 21/7.

    Now that is quick!

What was interesting though is that it was from one of those sellers that won't ship to a PO Box, so I had to give my street address.
Yet when it arrived here it had an Aust Post E-parcel sticker on it and it was delivered to my PO Box.

My wife bought some shoes on Ebay from someone in Traralgon Vic and it also took 4 days to get here - go figure!

That could be because AP took over, noticed you had a PO box and sent it to that. I've known that to happen before.

Yes that is normal, because we don't get street delivery from Aust Post.
Every time this happens the dragon in the LPO spits the dummy because it is incorrectly addressed and puts warnings on the parcel about incorrect address.

So with all that it only took 4 days to get to me from China, but something from Queensland routinely takes 7+ days.

That's because AP handles the front end as well.

Well BigShed that certainly beats mine, from China in 5 days and not including a weekend, like yours. Recently received a parcel from Griffiths NSW, 7 days.

The best shipping time I've seen is Monday morning delivery from a Friday afternoon order...from America
Couldn't even send a letter to the next suburb in that time frame.

My fastest delivery, while it does not compete for distance, is ordering some hinges at 11am and having them delivered at 2pm the same day.

California to Sydney in 26 hours - 15kg parcel by TNT. First package from Shipito, and never been as quick since.

A couple of years ago when the dollar was strong, I ordered a heap of stuff from Incra in the states.

I placed the order on a Friday, mid-morning and had it delivered on the Monday. they would have received the order on their Thursday because of the time difference and had it in the hands of the international shippers before their weekend. It flew in over the weekend and somehow got delivered Monday.

Around the same time I ordered something from WA and it took 10 days to get to Melbourne.

When I was living in Darwin, an item was posted to us from country Victoria and we got it nine months later.

Recently I bought something from China. I had it in a few days and the item plus postage cost me less than it would for me to post it to the other side of Melbourne.

How can any of that make sense?

    Cheers

The postal system in the US or China (or any other large country) HAS TO be good. When you need to service several hundred million people, inefficient systems are simply not an option. They'd be seeing more parcels in a day than Aus Post would see in a week or 3.

I'd also bet that they don't have nice, cushy union-backed conditions; if you don't deliver your quota in good time, you're out of a job.

Ordered a set of laundry troughs online from a Sydney supplier on Saturday evening for a house we are tarting up as a temporary (2 year) home while we build a new one, will then operate the temp as a rental.

Went out for an hour yesterday to pick laminates and door and panel colours for the laundry, came home to three things, a delivery card saying they had tried to deliver, a phone call from the delivery guy, and an email from the supplier saying the unit had been dispatched and they expected it to be delivered between Monday and Friday of next week.

The intriguing thing was that the dispatch email was sent from the supplier 5 minutes after the delivery driver had left the card and phone call. Rescheduled delivery for today and it arrived AOK. Not to bad, Picked, packed, despatched Sydney to Melbourne, sorted at depot and attempted delivery before the supplier could email that it had been sent for 7-10 day delivery.

I like it when you get the in transit email after you've picked it up from the PO

I've also had a polite argument with a supplier in the US using USPS who said they couldn't deliver to a PO box in Aus. Aus Post left a card in my door for collection from the PO
