Brisbane Again.
Hi all, I'm a joiner by trade but after four years of apprenticeship nightmares with mortice & tennon and Linseed putty I decided to opt out of a career and have spent most of my working life in sales roles. But I have kept in touch, making all my own furniture in whatever makeshift workshop I could set up and I've been doing a lot of small cabinetry jobs for pocket money. I now have a permanently set up workshop with the machinery to start projects from scratch and over the last weekend I purchased a log of Silky Oak and Maidens Blush which was milled at the Working With Wood Show, so I have 12 months while it dries to think about what i'll do with it. In the mean time i'll be honing my skills on some box making with some smaller scraps I have laying around. I hope to be able to contribute here as well as learning a lot more. David

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "David".
There are a stack of members in Brisbane and across S.E. Queensland plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork......
Cheers crowie

Welcome
Welcome to the forum from a fellow Brisbaneite, with the same first name. You will find that the more that you put into the forums the more that you will get out of them, unlike some other on-line forums this is a friendly place and most people are gracious and friendly, as well as being willing to share advice freely. There are so many sub forums to explore that you could spend your time doing that rather than woodwork!
As you are interested in boxes ypu should search out the threads on thos and the library has some excellent advice on how to make various kinds of boxes and box joints. The bandsaw box makers are particularly active and passionate about what they do so that is definitely worth a look. One of the most useful parts of the forums is the market place where you can pick up and sell timber and tools at "woodies prices" (the higher priced/closer to retail prices items don't seem to do so well). Many forum members love a bargain, and when they get one they are very likely to pass on something they do not want at bargain prices. When you need more timber there are some local woodies priced sellers in our area that you should look out, these include Mapleman and TG Creations. Of course there are also some excellent retail sources for great quality special timbers.
Enjoy the forums
David
