On Thursday i moved into my new (for me ) house after what has seemed like waiting forever.Today i locked the keys inside and locked myself out.Roll on Monday and hopefully a locksmith.As a mate said on being told, Well at least you know its secure.

After paying a locksmith $100 to retrieve my keys inside the car, I now carry spares for both the car and the house in my wallet.

There is a simple solution. Take a magnetic cabinet closure or latch. Remove one of the magnets. These are usually made with a hole in the center. Counter sink the hole enough to clear the head of a flat head machine screw. Use the screw to hold a spare key.

Ah now were to put the key.

The electrical panel with the circuit breakers is magnetic. If the door opens horizontally, put the key on the bottom part of the door and away from the hinge. If the door opens vertically, put the key close to the hinge.

People don't look there and even if someone opens either door, generally they won't notice the key.

I suppose the car keys were in the house as well, so you couldn't drive anywhere or sleep in the car even, and your new neighbours don't trust you,to let you sleep in the house. Should make for an interesting book . I hope it won't cost a fortune to get a Locky out.

Kryn, yes car keys --house keys and the CFS key. Luckily i do have spare car keys and am staying with a friend until my predicament is sorted.SHE doesn't mind the company.

I think that I would lock my keys in the house rather frequently.

I had a similar experience this morning, the saga follows.

I had a 9:00AM appointment with the doctor to have some stitches removed. It's only 5 minutes away so at 8:55, went to start the van and there's just a 'click' when I turn the key.
Put the charger on and called to cancel the appointment. No money left on the pay as you go mobile so went inside to use the land line.
Went back to see if the van would start and it did so went off to see doctor. Stitches removed all OK.
I bought a couple of pies for lunch, got back in the van and it wouldn't start. OK no problem, I'll just call the RACT and get a jump start and probably a new battery.
No mobile, still sitting on the kitchen bench. One public phone in Geeveston and it's out of order.
OK, wait 30 minutes for a bus or walk home,? Decided to walk as it's only a couple of kms and the exercise is needed.
Got to my driveway, went to get the house keys and found I'd left them in the van- or so I thought.

Luckily, in my haste to get to the doctor, I'd left the house keys in the wide open back door. So now I'm sitting here with a cup of tea and looking up the bus timetables, no way I'm making that walk twice in one day!

Next doctors appointment, I must get her to do a brain scan to see if I still have one.

Just to keep on track here, I can easily open a window that's big enough for me to climb through so I do have an emergency entrance.

well i'm back in.Took the guy about 15 - 20 minutes and only cost $50.money well spent.I got the phone connected today and should have the PC up and running by Friday.woohoo.i'm still using borrowed laptop.

When I lived in the area, I could have given you a few names that would have saved you the $50.00, but would probably end up having several insurance claims

Get a key safe, and bolt it to a wall in hidden or unobtrusive location. One like this key safe is the one I use. Paid for itself over and over
