post and beam house
hi,
i am interested in building a post and beam house or barn, avery simple ground floor only structure maybe around 10 m wide * 12m long...can anyone give me a brief idea of what sort of timber I would use, sizes and span widths of these timbers, how many posts would be needed to support these beams.I would not be using traditional methods as I think this would be difficult so what other means is there of attaching the posts to beams....and are the posts dug in the ground or supported on concrete piers on a slab?
I will be using hebel blocks as the walls.
Any good books you know of would be usefull,,,
thanks in advance..
