Resizing a wooden window - options?
Hi everyone
I have a fixed louvre toilet window in a brick veneer house. I wanted to replace this window with an operable window but the width (400mm ) means that a few companies either won't do it or charge an arm and a leg ($540 for an A&L louvre window!). Also needs to have inline reveals because of the brick veneer.
Option 1:
I have quite a few western red cedar windows lying around and thought that perhaps I could resize one of the smaller top sashes to fit over the outside or inside of the existing toilet window - making an awning. Would reglaze the new sash myself. To do this option, I would need to make the wooden frame of the sash a bit narrower and wondered if anyone on the forum has had a go at this?
Option 2
Found a narrow double hung window at Hughes - but it is configured for weatherboard with a slanted integrated wooden sill forming the bottom of the window reveal.
I am considering whether I could replace just the bottom reveal/ sill to convert it to something suitable for brick veneer? Quite pricey though for a second hand window ($220) so wouldn't want to muck it up. Has anyone done this
Thanks for any suggestions (and if you happen to have a 400mm wide window for sale - pm me!)
Regards and thank you
