This is a bit of a weird one and I'm not sure if it's the right forum, but I think it has to do with my windows.

I live in an end-unit townhouse that was built in 1974 in Ottawa. It's 4 bdroom and 2 stories. I bought it last year.

One problem I have always had with it is that there seems to be 0 sound proofing. For example, I can hear everything my neighbours say in their backyard from my bedroom window, and that's at least 3 stories down (because our basement exit to the backyard is lower than the ground at the front entrance). That's one thing, but the thing that drives me mad is people closing their car doors.

Yesterday, I couldn't believe it, but someone slammed their car door shut and the random collection of items on my bedroom dresser actually shook. That just doesn't seem right to me - that an external force from a car door closing can propagate all the way into my bedroom and vibrate objects in it. The car in question was maybe 30 feet from my house in a small parking lot.

One factor is that our townhouse community is built into a tiny ravine (there are about 100 homes) and the cars are parked in the perfect spot to reverberate the sound. But I still feel like this is a bit insane to have people closing their car doors shake my house.

So I guess to my question - there is one window in this bedroom and (even worse I suppose) it is on the complete opposite side of the house facing the backyard, oppose to the front of the house where said cars park. The window is about 6 feet wide and 3 feet high. Would sound proofing this window help at all, or is this more about my house's structure/materials or possibly lack of insulation.. or what could be the problem?

Thank you for any advice.
