Slab vs timber subfloor for extension
Hi all,
I'm a new member and I'm looking forward to making the most of everyone's experience on here!
We have a 50+ year old weatherboard cottage in Geelong that we want to extend from the rear, creating a modern open-plan space. Instead of simply constructing and tying in a new timber subfloor, a design concept we're considering is using a slab as this would create a step down into the new area (and highlight that you're leaving the original space and entering the contrasting new space) and it would also increase the floor to ceiling height.
I'm keen to hear from builders and designers as to whether this might cause issues with ventilation for the existing subfloor, and any other possible issues we should consider, before we proceed much further down this particular path. Our block is relatively flat, so earthworks should be minimal.
I have carpentry experience, so don't feel you have to use laymen's terms
Thanks in advance!!
