Hinge Mortising Jig Plans
Hi all, I made this hinge mortising jig from Woodsmith where you can download the plans free at the link below. As you can see it works great and it's portable and easy to use.
As the measurements are in imperial and in Australia the exact sizes might not be easily available, I used 3mm aluminium from the big green shed and used epoxy to gue them to make the 6mm required, I also used 12mm ply. I made my router base from some poly sheet I had and I also made some changes to accommodate a 105mm door hinge as the one in the plan only does up to about 90mm so is no good for full size door hinges, it took me two goes to get it right. I made the first try to the plans then after said I wonder if it will take a normal sized door hinge like my back door. Your right, it didn't, so I enlarged the front fence so I could place a fix it nob further away and then remade the jig to get the hinge size I wanted. It still does the smaller hinges just like the original sized jig. You still have to cut out the corners with a chisel but the main work has been done.
