Floor Boards over Particle Board
We recently demolished a house and kept the 82 x19mm toungue and groove jarrah floor boards. On the same property we are building a two storey home with a timber(pine)/particle board flooring (19mm). We want to install the floor boards over this floor and I am looking at the best method of installing the boards.
Do I:
1. Just nail the floor boards to the particle board?
2. Nail and glue the floor boards. Which glue to I use? Is it worth secret nailing considering I have many nail holes from the old nails?
3. Is it worth getting the boards re-machined? Or just rely on the sanding to flatten the floor out?
I have looked at whether it would be worth nailing the boards in each joist (?is this the right term) which are spaced at 450 c/c with longer nails but then the boards would be running across the room which would not be ideal.
Any comments or experience would be helpful.

Patto, re-consider the overall effect of using second hand flooring in a new house, is it really a good idea? If it is, don't lay it over particle board. Instead remove all the existing material and nail the new second hand flooring directly to the joists. Secret nailing is nice but requires some skill to do it well and it is a slow process. It would be surprising to say the least if any machinist would re-machine the old boards because they will be full of grit and dust, very hard on cutters. Sanding after laying would probably clean up the surface well enough, but that will be dependant on the wear and damage on the boards. As well as that there will be probably a fair bit of damage to the shoulders of the old boards. I would seriously re-consider using old flooring in a new house.

You can get a 12mm product suitable for the purpose, I'd glue and secret nail, but it can be costly.

Glue is all you need. Check the Boral website under timber floors. They have it al1l there including laying intsructions
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.
