P-51 In Queensland
Just had a P-51 Mustang fly over Bribie Island.
Anyone know where it's based, I'd love to get a closer look even if just to see it take off and land.
Cheers
Paul

Did it look anything like this?
Gallery - Caboolture Warplane Museum
(third row down)
I know the one at Caboolture is flown, but not sure if there are any other privately owned Mustangs up there.
Next time you see it, request a low pass, and we want a video with sound !!

It was too far away to see any detail, but I recognised the silloette (sp?) and the gorgeous sound of that merlin engine.

Some years ago Tamworth hosted an Air Show. It featured mainly Col Pay's collection he had at Scone. They did a fly past of the P51, Spitfire and a Korean War Mig. Yes quite spectacular and wonderful sounds of those engines. What was surprising to me was how slow they were. You would have had time to get a heap of bullets in the air had it been a wartime event. The Mig on the other hand was just so much faster. May be the modern soldier can act more quickly under fire than his WWII counterparts.
The Airforce put on a Show at Windsor. I remember watching a Vulcan come from a speck in the sky over the Blue Mountains down to maybe 500' fly parallel to the strip, then pull up and disappeared in a black cloud of exhaust.......then we heard him. We could have been bombed or strafed and not had any idea he was coming.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

I just spent 8 months up at Townsville living in the large unit complex on Old Common Rd.
When the F-18's landed toward the sea their final approach was right over my unit - low, slow and loud with flaps and gear down.
Another peice of news for those of you that haven't heard, the UK is getting a second airworthy Lancaster in the near future.
