Vehicle horns are so old hat

What I want is some options:

1. A gentle toot to wake up the driver in front of me when the lights have changed to green and they haven't noticed.
2. A thank-you when someone pulls over to let me pass or who holds back to let me into a lane. Something like 'ta dum'.
3. A blast that will rupture the ear drums of an eedjit when they cut me off.

Can't be beyond the wit of legislators and car/bike manufacturers.

We helped a lad with the pneumatics to fit a truck air horn to his ute to take care of option #3!

No's 1 2 & 3 will never be heard by those who prefer to spend money on amps and speakers and listen to Dooooff Doooof music they cant hear sirens even when they are right beside, behind or in front.

No's 2 & 3 illegal excessive use of and excessive noise from a motor vehicle as is doooofff dooooff music heard out side a vehicle now days


All of the above are void of being heard when on the mobile phone.

Early Renaults and Peugeots had Town and Country horns.

The town horn was a subdued, meek, mild little thing that was ideal for letting people know that you appreciated their efforts in keeping out of your way.

The country horn on the other hand were all the banshees of hell shrieking at the same time letting not only the person who it was intended for know that you were very displeased about their conduct but drawing the attention of every citizen within a 5 mile radius to witness your displeasure.

It also had the effect of just about lifting the offending vehicle out of the way.

Neato, . Nothing new under the sun.

My motorbikes have had pathetic horns; like throttling a budgie underwater.

But on one I did fit a dual trumpet air horn and that produced most satisfying results.

I'd like to fit a 100 watt Cibie Super Oscar to the rear bumper, just to give people a "gentle" hint to dip their high beams when coming up from behind .

I just want a good old fashioned 'GaaaaHooooGah' klaxon horn. It would be suitable to fit to anything - specially my shopping trolley for all the idjits who block escalators, door and such in shopping centres.

D1 bought an air horn for FIL to put on his mobility scooter, but he didn't want it, so I mounted it on the motor bike - very effective.

I fitted a 12V claxon to my 6V VW and it sounded like a sick frog. At least it used to raise a laugh at the lights.

when you watch an old American movie and it's the dead of night and you hear the haunting sound of a train whistle in the distance,
well i know a local farmer who bought one from the states and fitted it to the header or the seeder.
You can hear that a long way off. lol

Best wake up system on a vehicle I have ever used was compression whistle on 3 vehicles 1912 English Star, 1913 Delaunay Belleville, Joy ride train with a 149 Holden motor loved blowing that whistle wen the golfers where about to T off on the 6th hole The siren on the Dennis Fire Engine was not as good.

A driver must not use, or allow to be used, a horn, or similar warning device, fitted to or in the driver’s vehicle unless—
(a) it is necessary to use the horn, or warning device, to warn other road users or animals of the approach or position of the vehicle; or
(b) the horn, or warning device, is being used as part of an anti-theft device, or an alcohol ignition interlock, fitted to the vehicle.
Maximum penalty—20 penalty units.

Back in the days of yoof I had a dressed up Mini Cooper included in all the trimmings was a set of twin truck horns that couldbe switched to work with the 4 spotlights on the bonnet.
Did need its own electrical & air tank system but damn it was fun.

These days I think these would do the trick

My dear old mum used to ride a "step through scooter" in the mid 1970's until she got knocked off by a car driver cutting the corner.
She then got back into driving a car [auto] but insisted we install a loud horn for her......
My brother & I fitted an old "claxton" & an old "dip switch" to operate it......
Mum thought it was great and it moved anyone, who dare cut her off or got in her way.....lol...
