Taiwanese Pallet Pine ID
I tore up a pine pallet that my drum sander was packed on the other day, and was wondering if anyone can possibly tell what type of pine it is. To me all pine looks the same.
There's a Taiwan White Pine, but it's apparently rare, so it's not likely.
Any ideas? I know there's not much chance, but thought I'd ask anyway, just in case. I really like putting a name to timbers I use.Last edited by Humphrey9999; 16th December 2012 at 10:36 PM. Reason: Added a

You should see the pine going out of Townsville to China, all cyclone fallen plantation pine from the Cardwell / Kennedy area.

You know, it was on my mind that it looked exactly like some of our pine varieties. I'll bet the pallet was made from Aussie pine. Still don't know what type, but it doesn't matter. I'll just call it pine. Got lovely grain in a lot of it, so I didn't want to discard it.

Many years ago we were bought a slatted garden seat of Taiwanese manufacture. The slats all appeared to be Australian hardwood and some were Silky Oak with beautiful figuring. At least they were being used for something other than newsprint and toilet paper.
Cheers,

Good Morning Humphrey
It Is quite possible that it is Taiwanese plantation pine - they have planted heaps.
It is also quite possible that the pine was sourced from Russia, Canada or the USA - the scale of their forestry industries make Oz's look ather small.
