    Default Cleaning walnut veneer

I have recently purchased a turntable with a walnut veneer base that had a piece of gray duct tape (2''x 3") across the front of it. I removed the tape and tried to clean it with lemon oil, but there is still a sticky mark on the wood. Is there any other type of cleaner than can be used? I do not want to refinish the base unless there is no other alternative.
    thankyou.

You could get a fresh piece of gray tape and stick it over the sticky mark a couple of times and see if that lifts it.

If not what is the original finish?

    If its old gafa tape.
Duct tape is plastic, gaffa tape is cloth backed.
The adhesive will either go dry & hard or sticky & gooy.
In either case some form of oily solvent is your best bet.
choices, turps will shift it best, some of the furniture oils would probably be best for the timber though.
From my experience of getteng gaffagoo of all sorts of equipment, some mineral oil content is helpfull, the citrus oils just don't seem to get all the way there. Look for one of the commercial oils like "ocedar" or similar.
Either way you will need some serious rubidy dub.
The aromatic solvents like thinner & acetone don't seem to have any advantage over turps & probably arent worth the risk.
    cheers

Soundman advice should be enough....We use a goo remover type spray at work and it works surprisingly well, but does leave an oily residue which then has to be removed.

This is somthing similar I restored a couple of years back.

You might try a squirt of wd40 or similar, it dissolves lots of adhesives.

To remove this "gunk" you could try old fashioned eucalyptus oil. It will revitalize the walnut and remove the old adhesive. It is natural after all. Just love walnut timber! Its very impressive stuff.
