Dont forget Monday
Remember lads, a new vac or dishwasher isnt going to win any brownie points on Monday so start thinking "romantic gesture" and be original.

Un/fortunately I've got an organised woman and if I don't organise Valentines Day I'm likely to be very dis membered/organised.

heavy commercialism of it may be american but they were certainly mass producing valentines cards 50 years ago and probably much much longer.
from my perspective I would be just as happy with a home made card and a thoughtful free present. Past presents from me have included ironing all my boyfriend's shirts that were stacked up waiting for him to iron them as needed. This was an exceptional sacrifice on my part as you could cut the plug off of my iron and put the ironing board in the hard rubbish and I would be unlikely to notice for a couple of years.
i've also given someone a rose bush in the past - much cheaper than a bunch of roses and provides roses in future years.
An expensive valentines day gift is a waste of money IMHO.no-one said on their death bed I wish I spent more time in the office!

Every day is Valentine's day for Mr and Mrs SilentC
We agreed a couple of years ago to give it a miss. Isn't it supposed to be about declaring a secret love or some such nonsense? I think my marriage proposal 8 years ago would have been a give away..."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."
