Hi All,

I have a motor home ( 10y.o) which has both solid timber and veneer on ply tasmanian oak cabinets finished in a clear 2 pack urethane.

The solid timber finish has remained intact and looks good but all the veneered surfaces irrespective of their location have failed to maintain a smooth, glassy finish.

The veneer grain seems to have opened and lifted, not easily visible to the eye, but feels rough on the hand. This surface has been like this, unchanged for the last 6 years since it's been my possession.

What would the approach be to restore this surface?.

Would sanding smooth increase the gap in the grain and exaggerate the existing problem?
