    Default 'Pute Prob.

I have had a notice on the screen that says 'Fatal exception press any key to continue'

Sounds frightening, but when I press any key it carries on, I guess laughing its little gut out at the fright it gave me.

It does quote an error number, and the time that it occurred was on closing down when the shut down program stopped.

    Any help would be appreciated

Can't help you Peter, though it might help others if you tell us what version of Windows you're running.

Perhaps the computer just hasn't forgiven you for the pancake mix and keyboard incident

How about trying a google search on "fatal exception ####". I think I might have seen this suggested in a computer mag.

Don't worry about it Peter, its quite normal for Win 98, especially if you run Office or any Office programs. One solution is to strip the wheels off it (shut down all the superflous process) and the other is to do what us mere mortals do..That is put up with having to reload Windows every 6 months or so or change to XP.

At last count, a Fatal Execution (or Exception) Error could be caused by one of about several thousand things in 98.

    Cheers

Default Thanks Pancake eaters of the world

Thanks blokes, This is the greatest little forum ever.

For you 98 users try this:
    click click click click
Programs - Accessories - System tools - System information -

    click click
    System file checker - Tools

This came from Dan's suggestion about the google search - put in 'fatal exception'
