Cradle

Hello,
A couple of photos of the cradle I made for our first grandchild.
Olivia is 10 weeks old and going well, the cradle is a few weeks older.
Plan was loosely drawn on an envelope from a picture on a US web site . The timber is red cedar and cedulla, base 12 mm ply, wheels because they were asked for. Involved a bit of turning, jointing (5 boards in each end), dovetailing, morticing and whatever have you. Mainly hand tools.
Finished with blended oil with stain mix in, brushed on, rubbed with 0000 steel wool & buffed. The brass plate was let into the cedar 5 mm to insure against the glue and dowels ever letting go, not likely but not prepared to run any risk with a baby. The cradle swings nicely and tows about the house easily. So far I'm happy with the result and hope it has more use over the years.

Briliant job of the cradle, well done, when i discovered i was going to be a father for the first time, i set to building my first cot out of western australian jarrah, got as far as the verticle slats, tenon joints ready, then got informed i was having twins, lets just say all work stopped and the wallet came out instead for two of everything, now my youngest sister is pregnant, could be job on again lol.
But all seriously, nice job of the cradle...

Great job on the cradle - looks really good. Even better work by the parents on the occupant of the cradle - spoil the bub and hand it back.
