rubbing out a Maloof mix
Generally, when we put a straight oil on a surface procedure is.... wipe on, let it sit for a bit, if it all dissappears, wipe a bit more on, repeat until oil starts to sit on surface, leave for a bit, wipe off so as not to leave any oil on the surface that goes sticky.
When we use a Maloof mix do we do the same thing or can we leave the mix wet on the surface?

You hit the nail on head Pete. When oils are applied they need time to penetrate into the timber then wiped off hard until no oil appears on the cloth. In Sam's book, he says he leaves his brew on the surface for 20 minutes and rubs in hard creating heat until his arms hurt. If the oil has gone off (sticky), apply more oil and immediately start rubbing. He then does same the following day and keeps repeating until he is satisfied with the result. ie. the type of finish he is looking for also depending on the type of timber.
Cheers, Evan
