Engineering Shop in Sydney or Thereabouts
I need to find a good engineering shop who can do precision machining and TIG welding for a coupling I'm making.
The coupling goes between an auto transmission and 4 wheel drive transfer case.
The part needs to transmit around 2,200nm of torque. The engine puts out 550nm and the transmission has a 4:1 first gear.
I have the parts and all I need is some minor machining and really high quality welding.
The parts will probably need heat treating after the welding as well.
Any suggestions I don't mind drivng a long way if the job is done right first time and cost isn't a driving factor.

Can't offer a suggestion for someone to do it, but a couple of things come to mind.
1. I see your other thread about cutting the transmission shaft to take the adaptor you are talking about here. For my money, I would intergrate both parts and have one place do both, eliminates the blame game aspect.
2. Re your quoted torque figures, check the transmission ratios, as reverse is generally lower than first, increasing the potential max torque load.

Cutting the shaft doesn't faze me too much.
Reverse probably is lower but I'm more likely to use 1st when drag racing.
This is a HSV 6.2 litre 317kw engine and 6speed auto I'm fitting into a 1981 L300 van! That'll make you laugh.
I exect to get the front wheels off the ground so the coupling will take a beating.
