Just started the serious thinking on the garage project.

when adding the roof to the top story I'd like to get as much height as possible, makes the room look bigger and aids music reproduction, what also aids musicality is not having a flat and square roof. to get the extra height and lack of right angles at the wall ceiling join I was thinking of using a scissored truss, cousins say to forget the fancy stuff as it costs too much.

Truss company was happy to quote on various styles of truss but said each had to be calculated individually and could not even give me a ball-park figure on the difference between trusses for the same span.

"Why is this so"?? What are the major differences between truss systems and which ones are most common and which are the most cost effective ( Usually and only after general and advisory information )
