stopping house movement
Hi guys
We have a hardieplank strip exterior house, timber frame and iron roof, built end of 1979. House is on a concrete slab on clay soil.
I wanted to go for a level 4-5 finish inside with the gyprock, but have to eliminate some movement first. It has been getting worse in the last year or two. I've never seen it as bad as this. Even some of the doorways are going out of square. I know the frame bracing is a diagonal timber strip which I believe is an obsolete method of bracing now.
What I want to know is would it be advisable to remove the cladding on some walls (either internal or external), fit bracing ply and re-clad? Or would I be wasting my time and efforts.
The house has always had some movement over the years which has kept me busy patching and painting. I would like to put a bit of an end to it if I can.
Would appreciate any input so I can start planning things.
