Hello all,

I am a novice renovator and am considering installing a small non-load-bearing interior stud wall with a door into an existing opening that is about 2 meters wide by 2.5 meters tall.

I have read several articles online about how to build simple interior stud walls and I feel fairly confident that I can do that part. But I am concerned about the installation of the door.

Several of the "how to install a door" DIY articles I have found online recommend using a "pre-hung" door that is already assembled within a frame. This seems like it would be an excellent solution, but I am having difficulty finding pre-hung doors in Sydney and I am wondering if the pre-hung door concept is an American thing that is not popular/available in Australia.

So... a few questions...

1) Is it crazy to try to build an internal stud wall with a door if you have no experience with walls/doors and only basic carpentry skills?

2) If it is not too crazy, do you have any thoughts on pre-hung doors? Are they a good idea? If so, where can you find them in AU? If not, can you point me to any good sites that show how to build a door frame into a stud wall and hang a door?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide.

Also, if this question is not appropriate for this section, please let me know where I should post it.

Cheers,

jollyred
