Macasser Ebony finish? Yes Im a NOOB
Hello, I just finished carving a bowl from Macasser Ebony and I am having difficulties with the finish. I left the bowl sitting for one day unfinished and it started developing small cracks. I applied a couple of healthy coats of Watco Butcher Block oil hoping it would seal it and stop the cracking, and it still cracked, though not nearly as much. I sprayed it with some lacquer and it has sealed it, no more cracks. My problem is, I would like for the bowl to be food safe with a semi gloss or high gloss finish. Can I put Butcher Block oil on top of the lacquer and make it food safe or do I need to sand the lacquer off and go a different route? Help Im stuck at a stand still.
Thanks,
Zeke
