WOODWORKING QUIZ for 22 Sept. 04
Good Evening Friends,
I have no idea what happened to the 21st as I seemed to have lost a day somewhere. Today being the 22nd here in the U.S. at 6:46 AM and around
8:46 PM your time I am proceeding with this quiz with this date.
I have a piece of curly cherry and wish to matchbook it for a table top with a 3/4" plywood base and I intend to glue the matchbook veneer of 1/8" x 26" x 42". The piece of lumber it 6"wide x 8' long, what would be the best method for making the matchbook slices out of the wood? I know that I will need to glue up the veneer on the top and encase the edges with cherry with the balance of the table being cherry wood as well.

WOODWORKING QUIZ ANSWER for 22 Sept 04
Good Evening Friends,
Well it appears that I stumped you fellows also, as I did on another forum.
To achieve a matchbook appearance in a piece of furniture you must slice or cut the board vertically and open the pieces up like a book and lay them next to each othet and it will give you a mirror image of the figure in the wood.
By doing this several times you will achieve the matchbook appearance, and some times it can be very nice. I only wish I had a picture to show you.
