Yes! Gonna be interesting around the Dandenongs cos most have the roads have a solid single line in the middle. And there a lots of push bike riders and tourists tootling around on weekends.

Seems logical to me (and as far as I new it was standard across Australia - I guess Victoria is a bit behind).
Cheers.

Should have made it clearer Vernon relating to this off the PDF put up
However a driver can drive over the
island if they are entering or leaving
the road, or entering a turning lane
that begins immediately after the
painted island (see diagram 2).

Still doesn't stop the idiot stopping in the centre lane to turn into a service station with 2 lanes of traffic coming the other way.
Guess how many trucks nearly rear-end cars that stop quickly to do this - and never a blinker until they stop - Bloody nuisance car drivers someone should blow them all up.
Cheersregards

I was surprised to learn that in NSW you CAN drive over a painted island, as long as it only has one line around it.
If it has two lines around it, you are not allowed to drive over it.
When I learned to drive, I was told to imagine that the paint was about 6 feet thick, like an imaginary wall above the paint.
Now, with my son learning to drive, I'm finding that my understanding of what's legal and what isn't, needs a considerable update.
See link below for where I got my info:
Changes to NSW Road Rules

Good changes. Queenslanders best take note
I was turning off the SE freeway into Stanley street one day with a Coaster full of disabled kids. This bastard in a tipper towing a dog came up on my right hand side and went across the painted island and drove in front of me!!!
Ha dthe hide to abuse me when my teacher's aide took his numberplate and the telephone number on the truck.
Seems the 30tonne rule is alive and kicking.
