Squaring up an archway
Hi,
My solid brick house has 2 archway I want to square-up to increase the walkway space and modernise the interior a little. Its an art deco style building but the arches look to have been put in place during the 70's (probably replacing two old double doors). The opening will be approximately 2.5 metres and will have approximately 8 course of bricks at the top (one or two bricks less than the current). How do I bo about installing a suitable galv lintel? I was thinking of removing a strip if plaster back to the brick, removing the morter, buttering up an L-shaped lintel and slotting it it. Then remove the archway below and replaster.
It this approach ok?
Cheers
Matt
