Old Hardwood Floor
Hi, we're planning to pull up our ancient carpet and refinish the hardwood floors in our 1960s bungalow. I was reading through an old topic where someone mentioned that floors used to be sealed with tung oil and waxed. When we moved here there was an old floor polisher in the cupboard (looked like it would date back to the age of the house and still works) does this mean it's safe to assume that the floor was sealed and waxed before (i'm assuming) they later decided to put down carpet? or could the polisher be for the tiled, concrete or lino tile floor instead?
What options for floor refinishing does that leave us today? i had thought of getting a tung oil finish because we have dogs which spend a lot of time inside and thought it may be easier to get touched up every now and then if necessary. Am i on the right track?
Also could it be as easy as pulling up the carpets and just waxing the floors or will they still need sanding and refinishing?
